I actually managed to get out yesterday. We are currently blessed with excellent weather so I thought I'd make the most of it. I drove the car to the Château de Portes which is north of here, at an altitude of 557metres (1804 feet).

You can just see a little snow in the far distance in this shot, which is on top of the Ardèche plateau. There is about 1m of snow on Mont Aigoual which the Dunfords know well.

After a Boxing Day lunch, we set off, rather late, for a drive around the Peak District lanes. What a surprise as we rounded the corner at the top of Lonstone edge. A little later, and above the mist, the LED lights came into their own.

I never know what's real and what's fake, with Tony's pictures. But either way, these are spectacular images.

It is all straight from an iPhone with no post-production meddling, not even a crop or asking the camera to enhance anything! It is amazing how well photographs in difficult lighting conditions now turn out at the press of a button—ones that years ago would have taken much time and trouble to get right.
Although some elements of Photoshop are rather complicated, many of the 'Auto settings' work very well. The image on the right is adjusted to automatically balance shadows and highlights. Click the image for a higher-resolution copy.

So sorry Tony. It was very rude of me to suggest that you may have messed with the photos.

I find Winter to be a great time to use the Austins. You don't have to wait up all night, to see amazing sunsets and sunrises. The days can be so clear, although my trip yesterday was in mist and drizzle.

Keep the pictures coming, Tony and Anne - as I need to drive 100 miles to get to anywhere above the clouds.
