What have you done today with your Austin Seven
I took the Ruby out for her fisrt drive in ... ahem years.. a number of teething faults, lacking on power though the engine did climb in revs fairly well had no power when got in to 4th, don't recal her being so weak, also stalls on most junctions and the steering wheel seems to have way more play that I ever recalled. Finally she couldnt makie it up my drive in forward or reverse, I had to tow her back up in the Landy. The drive is admittedly steep , but i am a little surprised she couldn't make it. Ho humm. I think i need to clean the carb again, check my fuel level as I dont think ive got tonnes, and i guess clean the distributor cap and check points and clean plugs and regap. Love these cars though Smile

You can't beat regular use to keep things in proper working order. After standing too long it's probably worth checking the compressions; valves sometimes get sticky and don't seat properly. What you have already suggested is a start, and make sure in particular that everything in the carb is clean: a layer of gum in the jets may not stop the engine running but it will greatly reduce proper power output.

^^I couldn’t agree more^^

Just had 5 mins away from the christmas prep to fettle, ok - gunk in the carb again and jets a little blocked. that is one issue, oh and number 4 ht lead dangling away from the spark plug , may not have helped.  i'll still check and clean the plugs an points.

Finally got round to stripping the block from the engine and delivering it to the engineers for a rebore.

Won’t be ready until into the new year, though.

Sorry, I don’t know how to rotate the picture through 90 degrees, so you will all have to lie down to see it. Big Grin
As usual, just clicking on a picture will show it the right way round - and at full size.

Thank you for that bit of advice, Tony. My problem was getting it to rotate before I attached it to my post. Is there a dodge for this?

Do the compression test sooner than later and check the tappet clearances too... burned valves are a nuisance.

will do.. thanks

The only way that I've discovered is if you use a recent 'real' digital camera or an iPhone 12 or above - both seem to cope automatically with turning the image the right way up. Even then, on the iPhone, you might need to rotate it first using the Photos app:
  1. Select the photo
  2. Tap Edit
  3. Tap Crop
  4. Tap the Rotate Left icon
  5. To rotate right, tap Rotate Left three times
You can also rotate the screen on your iPhone to take photos in the correct orientation:
  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center
  2. Tap the Portrait Orientation Lock button to make sure it's off
  3. Turn your iPhone sideways
Selfies taken with an iPhone are automatically flipped because the camera and the user's eye are facing opposite directions.
The other way I use is to use a program like Photoshop and give the image a new layer - and then use the control to "flatten" the image and fuse the layers together. However, this might still not work - and I've had similar trouble with photographs sent to me for advertisements. As a thumbnail (which is what the images you see on Friends are), they cannot be altered, but when viewed at full resolution they are OK.
