My early ruby has all 3 deflectors in place. Often the fan belt is left off so no no blades at all. It doesn't overheat. The radiator is very old, possibly from 1934 and it has the filler on the nearside.

I think a thorough flushing of the cooling system is what you need Dopey!

Hi,
I'm actually trying to install these side panel on my ruby. but I'm not sure how to attach at the bottom. The top clearly lines up with the cowl, the the bottom has a nut , that kind of lines up with a lower hole, but it looks like it needs a long bolt with a spacer. Does anyone have some real pictures of these fitted?... i have seen some indication of them being spot welded to the radiator (not keen on this idea. Steve

Hi Steve,
These don't fit terribly comfortably on mine. Each edge has a felt strip held on with bifurcated rivets. There's a screw at the top to attach it to the grill and two screws at the bottom to attach it to the flitch panel (marked with arrows on the photos); one goes through the front edge of the deflector, the other is through a flimsy lug at the bottom rear edge. Very difficult to photograph I'm afraid. I find that with the grille having slots to adjust its position relative to the flitch panels, the height of the holes in the deflectors can be out by quite a way. One of mine fits, the other doesn't! There are repro panels out there. I don't know how accurate they are. I hope this helps.

Wow - thanks. how is it attached to the radiator there? It looks like rivets?

(This post was last modified: Yesterday, 12:51 PM by Colin Morgan.)
On mine the rivets hold a strip of rubber that acts as a seal by pressing onto the side of the radiator to restrict the air flow - the deflector isn't fastened directly to the radiator.

thanks Colin and Peter (just actually read your notes)
Ok i'll have another good poke - i have reproduction plates - seem like a good idea Steve |
