The start of my van's body build
Pleasure Steve. As you say it’s Tsawwessen and he recently moved into a residential care home. Notwithstanding that, he recently bought a pedal tricycle for himself to keep fit

Here's a couple of pics of Roy's cars. The red Chummy now resides in my garage, but I know not what became of the van YW7781

Body framework is progressing slowly.

The doors are next on the list to be assembled. The wee container of hardware has to be gone through and assessed for what needs to be done to have it all install correctly. John gave no information on the door assembly with the vans build instructions so its a case of common sense and looking at photos to confirm my suspicions  for assembly.

The Budget lock door latches have springs so hard that I can barely press them in with my thumbs. I've disassembled one to look at replacing the very stiff springs with softer ones that won't wreck the B pillars when closing the doors. I know that technically the doors are a "slam" type but I don't think that the latches would allow you to close them unless you twist the handle and pull them closed. I'll have to fabricate the inside release lever/ handles.

At the moment its all a case of one step forward and two back it seems.

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi all.
I've been trying to get time in on the van build but I'm having difficulty finding the time at the moment.
I did get all of the roof slats installed and the roof looks FAB! The doors are on the building table but I've not started them yet.

I've have had terrific success with a High Gloss Black spray aerosol paint from our local body shop supply. It is a 2K type  that uses a hardener to fully cure. The hardener is internal and activated by banging the pin in the bottom of the can on the bench to puncture the internal hardener vial. You fully shake the can and spray. The can must be used within 24 hours as the chemical  hardening will render the paint unusable after that.

I had some bad runs in the front face of the tank after the first coats so I wet sanded the paint flat again and repainted with this paint. It is the very best spray paint I've ever encountered. The finish is comparable to the high end paints with a hardener like Glassurit or Sikkens you spray with a gun. The finish you see here in the pics is sprayed with NO polishing.  I'll be using this product to paint the wings and running boards.

The finish is so good you can see me taking the photograph in the last shot !!!
Cheers,
Stephen

As you say the finish looks really good, but you don't tell us the brand to find when we want to try it. Please say waht it is.

The roof slats look superb, it’ll be a shame to cover them up!

Hi Robert. In reply to your questions as to the type and brand of paint I used  I have fished the tin out of the rubbish bin and photographed it for you Big Grin

The can as purchased.

The bottom of the can showing the activation pin that must be used to open the internal hardener vial.

The red supplied knob which goes in the activation pin which you must hit to activate the hardener.

This product is marketed here in Canada and I think the USA, so may not be available in the UK.  If you talk with your local Auto paint supplier they may have an equivalent spray paint in a rattle can that is marketed in the UK.

Hope this helps,
Stephen

PeterN,

The A7CA Chassis Register suggests it now carries the registration BS 9573 and the DVLA show it to be currently taxed. It's on the Van Register.

This would appear to be a similar product with bottom of can push button activation available here in the UK from ebay.
