The two castellated towers are the entrance to this impressive church. The white painted shop still has the huge Atkinson advert on the wall, but the bed shop has gone. Lower down the street looks very run down, but up the street the other way it looks to be more of an attractive traditional shopping street. Church Street, Preston. Note the well-dress people. OK, this was the only sort of clothing available - but I'll bet that a picture today of the same area with pedestrians would not demonstrate the same sense of decorum. i.e.

Yes, how amusing - the dicotomy of the vast improvments in medeical care, technology, the standards of living etc, compared with the sense of current sense of entitlement, dress, behaviour and the 'taking it for granted' attitude displayed by a large section of the population.
