I am greatly enjoying this topic! Since the plate is anchoring the spring to the axle beam then to accommodate spring length change on suspension movement there has to be some play in the shackle pin assembly? Or distortion of spring/chassis mounting? Whilst some may not like the appearance of a piece of tyre it should be relatively easy to cast insitu some polyurethane. Casting versions are available in a range of hardness up to 90 shore. Coloured in black could be neat and unobtrusive.
Could the alternate be to use a silentbloc or polyurethane bush in the spring eye at the fixed end to minimise any increased operating loads?
