Received back after just three days - from our hyper-efficient local garage - four wheels, cleaned, plastic coated and with new types and tubes. Spent a few minutes carefully scraping the coating from the wheel nut countersinks.
Took the '29 Chummy and Ruby to the nearby Litton Village Well Dressing and Wakes Celebration- a late afternoon and evening event where the village is sealed off and a grand time had by all. The Ruby was parked next to a Mercedes AMG SLS - a car that, when new in 2013, had the world's most powerful naturally aspirated engine. Its appearance after 13,000 miles was astounding, probably better than new. The owner knew all about Austin 7s and we had an enjoyable conversation. The Chummy was parked between an AC Cobra (resident in the village) and a Morgan. Two just-delivered cars also appeared, a Morgan 3-wheeler and a Bentley.

I'm proud to own both a 1931 Austin 7 RN and an 'ordinary' 2014 Mercedes SL and can honestly say I enjoy driving both equally. They are amazing feats of engineering in their own right and at the top of their respective games.
Buy an Austin 7 they said, It's easy to work on they said !

I still think I'd go for that delicious Elan, even though its plastic.

Just because petrol her in darkest North Wales is locally now 197p per litre and, as a consequence, every trip out has to have a purpose, doesn't mean that the Seven is confined to barracks. So, needing supplies from our local feed merchant, the little car has been out to Llanuwchllyn to fetch a bag of coarse mix, into Bala for some essential bits and pieces and then up to the horses who are now billeted at Llandderfel. Approximately 20 miles covered but at least what would have been a fairly mundane run was much more fun.

Another mention of the price of petrol.. has anyone done a price comparison to the price of beer? My local is at £27.20 per gallon and that's just to rent it as it passes through!

We worked out that on the 40mile run I did the other day on the traction engine, that I was burning a £10note every 45mins.

So the Seven is still cheaper.

My father used to call going to the pub as, "pissing your money against a wall". And once you've burst the seal, I think he was pretty accurate.

That said what price is fun?

My grandad told me never to count the cost of eating and drinking with friends. Add motoring to that and I reckon he got it right.
