Yes Bob , more ball indented tracks.Trouble is there is no real alternative if the hub does not easily separate from the half shaft. I would put a counterbored washer on the end of the half shaft to protect the thread.
Once the hub is away from the half shaft, a slide hammer is the best way to
get the outer part off.
