Help Identify My Spares
#11
I also have two of these, which I think may be bonnet-securing "latches", but they do not match the mounting holes in my wings and seem a bit "grand" for my RN. Any ideas?

There are only two mounting holes in the base of these and my wings are expecting three. The spacing of these mounting holes are also further apart than the two at the base of the "triangle" of holes on my wings, so to fit them would require some drilling. If they're correct I'd be happy to do that but if not I'd rather source the right bits.

Hi

Far too fancy for a Seven.  This image grabbed from the Oxfordshire Sevens site is what you want. All the cherished suppliers normally stock them.

Cheers

Howard

I think the item in the plastic bag is an interior door pull handle but would be easier to identify if the bag was removed. If you look at the second photo down from Dave Mann you can see a pressed steel back plate above the door upholstery. The door handle in question fits onto the front of this plate and is held in place by two screws (5BA?). There are two bosses on the rear of the main structural door backplate ( the horizontal bit visible in Dave Mann’s second photo) which are tapped for these 5BA screws.
The back plate and the main structural door backplate should be finished in a grained wood effect paint called scumbling, pronounced “scummell”.

The door the backplate (which I have), the spare winder and the pull handle go onto needs to come apart as the the winder doesn't raise the glass; you can feel resistance and the limit on the travel of the winder, so it's working the mechanism, but the glass is no longer connected to that, I'd guess. Should be easy enough to sort.

Someone has just painted my backplates black; I'll have to look and see if I can fine a good picture of the "scumbling" finish. Is it "faithful" wood graining, like you'd find on the dash of a Facel Vega?

finding some self adhesive transfer film with brown wood graining will be easier than painting , or finding a Facel Vega.

Maxwelton,

There's some information here regarding 'Oil Scumble' finish:

Here's an original sample from an RP door cap -

It is by no means a "faithful" reproduction but keep in mind this is somewhat magnified, you also can't see from the photos that it's buried under a smooth gloss varnish, so it does give an impression of being polished mahogany or something of the sort.

Colour reproduction on computer screens is a fickle thing, but I took a sample to my local paint shop and they produced a Fiat red which is a very near match for the base colour (it's not unlike red oxide). I have yet to match the other hues, or to figure out how to apply them for the same effect - bristle brushes are probably the answer, but for now I have more urgent projects demanding my attention.

I found two Facel Vegas at our local garage.
The guys were amazed that I knew exactly what they were.  They have a restoration workshop on site and the two cars were being restored for customers one was a HK500 I think the other one was a different model.

The eye strap in the original posters picture at the far right is a common modern stainless steel item available from most chandlery shops.
I probably have a dozen of them in different sizes in my pile of boat fittings and on my boat.
