Does it actually need the felt? Or anything? Mine had the original felt, and rigid spacer pieces at each bolt position. And no rust.
When I had the body off I replaced the spacers with plastic, slightly thicker, and no felt. There is a slight gap where the felt used to be. And we now have a smaller chopping board in the kitchen.

I use 3mm thick Foamex plastic which will crush and absorb any small irregularities.

on my TVR Vixen, felt was used on the body-to-chassis mounts and after a decade or three / four..havoc had wreaked.. so I'd abstain from felt; be it soaked in oil or whatever..
On my Triumph TR2 I've used a proprietary 'body mounting kit' consisting of broad rubber strips that looked and felt like licorice. That stuff should still be available from TR specialists..... just my 2 pennies.....
