We have been discussing the possibility of painting the wood, rather than covering it, does anyone have any experience of painted wooden bodies?

I think that a fabric covering would be more durable.

Dad built both the "Red Car" & the "Black Car" from ply and then painted. I'll let him explain but if he doesn't respond remind me and I'll prod him!

And to answer David, both were built in the 1970''s and are both still around and doing well.

Well, if it's a "Sports" van perhaps you could fit two doors in the roof and then use them as air brakes...
