Building my first Austin Seven car
#61
Today was reaelly, really cold but also very exciting.  You will have to wait to find out why though.

We had to put the filter on with some washers and bolts that were really short.

Then we put the sump on but one of the bolts was not right so we took it all off and made a better thread.  After that it was all really strong.

Then we put the small end of the tsuds into the holes and use the stud extractor to put them in properly

Then we used the rule of nine which mean you use the two valve number that add up to 9.  We turned the flywheel to bring up 8 and tighten the bolt on 1.  and made sure the gap was exactly right using the feeler gauges.  this was quiet tricky and took a lot of patience and it kept getting too tight.

Then we put the gaskets on.

We stuck the white gasket into the cover with superglue.

We checked the gap between the dynamo and the big gear was just right.

tightened up the nuts until it clicked.

Dad put the distributor in and I did up the spark plugs.

I soldered the wires up and watched for it to suck in.  I really like soldering.

We used this bit of metal to make sure the centre plate was in the right place.

Dad then lifted the engine onto his stand and we put a gear box on.  Then we put in oil until it reached the line.  We put the starter motor on and the carburettor and some petrol.  Dad ran the starter motor until we had some oil pressure, you could hear it make a different sound as the oil gauge started to work.

Then th ereally exciting bit!!!!

I am soooo happy.  It is really cold now so we are going to start it again tomorrow and put some water in it.
