Some years ago we sat down after the Autojumble and worked out why we go there. We soon realised that it wasn't primarily to sell things - from a financial viewpoint it would be far better to stay at home. However, it's good to meet people (especially our foreign customers), to deliver pre-ordered parts and to collect parts from suppliers, and to enjoy the 'buzz' of the event. That's why we downsized from two pitches to one - we can do all we want from a single pitch and it saves money and effort.
This year our takings were our 3rd worst (by contrast the Centenary was brilliant as far as that was concerned) but the weather was OK and we still enjoyed the event. There were far more foreigners around - they seem to have got over the effects of Brexit and Covid. However it seemed that the number of visitors was down a lot - after the initial rush things got steadily quieter and in the afternoon there were periods when there was hardly anyone around.
