A great day out today at Henstridge Airfield. 54 happy miles each way, and a lovely sunny day with beautiful cars and planes in between.
We met and chatted to some great people, including one gentleman who introduced himself as the designer of Avon 'Sidecar' tyres!
There were lots of cars there, from a wide range or makes and years.
Last time we went (2015), there were more early biplanes. The commentator said that this was because the grass runway is currently out of action (works on site), and these planes with rear skid rather than wheel, don't really enjoy surfaced runways. They should be back next year though.
We were treated to a flypast by the 'red arrows' in the morning, and in the afternoon the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' (BBMF) brought the Griffon engine Mk XIX Spitfire to do a few overhead passes.
The event was raising money for the Dorset Air Ambulance, which runs from the airfield.
