Bacon slicer - all screwed up.

Having undertaken a minor repair to a bacon slicer starter I find that screwing in the long bolts G results in the gear wheel B locking up. By releasing the bolts to almost finger tightness the gear is released but the endplate K into which the bolts go is then loose and wobbles. Any suggestions?
