L16 about a UK tradesmans wage for a month. Now can get very nice second hand "moderns" here for half that and, with careful buying, for one week's wage. In the Motorists Bedside Book, Anthony Bird of the slightly earlier Depression period writes of old cars for a fiver or less. Usually with some tolerable defect, much as most cheaper Sevens still. Our RP, in terms of weeks local wages was worth about 1941 10 (rationing), 1947 15 (post war shortage) 1958 3.
