I am intrigued about what Steve Kay says about owning a Saab 96. if memory serves me correctly, the 96 had a Ford V4 engine in it but the freewheel device was carried over from the two-stroke cars.
Both the two-stroke Saabs and the Wartburgs used a petroil mix, which meant that, if the engine was on the overrun for long periods with the throttle closed, the bottom end became starved of oil with expensive results, The freewheel device prevented this from happening.
