Coil checks - a bump from old forum
#1
I found some advice on old forum re. checking coil when searching for spark after a layoff period.

1. check earth continuity from coil casing to body/chassis.

2. ohms reading across the SW and CB, lowest setting.... 1.4-1.6 ohms ideal

3. Set the meter to 20K ohm range and measure from HT terminal to side of coil. 4-6K ohms ideal. (Ian McGowan and others - thanks)

I also checked continuity from baseplate setscrew in distributor to crankcase, and finally, after it was all still not working, put the rotor arm on, which improved things greatly. Sparks!

re. point 3. my meter gave 7.25 on this setting. Do I assume its 7.25 thousand and therefore relatively healthy? Not unduly worried now I have a start up, but all knowledge is good knowledge.
