It is possible to melt Celluloid in Acetone and fill small holes with the resulting thick paste, once completely hardened it can be sanded and polished for an almost invisible repair. You do have to watch shrinkage and cracking as the acetone evaporates again from the repaired area. I have used acetone in water to soften hard raised edges and stick them back down.
