Hi Arthur,
I believe the Big 7 dynamo is a Lucas C45YV BN95 228227 (these letters / numbers will be stamped into the steel outer casing). Perhaps the carbon brushes are worn and need replacing. CB364 are the correct brushes for a Big 7 - there's a set listed on ebay, link below:

If the problem is something more serious than worn brushes, suggest you contact Robin Taylor (no relation !) of the Austin Big 7 Register and Spares - email: robin.e.taylor@talktalk.net
I'm sure he'll be able to help source a spare dynamo.
Forgot to mention, there's an "Austin Big Seven" private group page on Facebook with 449 members - you'll need to join the group to see the posts and to take part.

I've just opened my October issue of Morris Monthly and see that you've a wanted ad in Morris Mart - I've been a member of the Morris Register since 1972, almost 50 years! Presumably you have a Morris too ? As you can see top right under 'Car Type:' I've a 1936 Morris 8 Series I Tourer besides my 1934 Austin 7 AVH Van (basket case).
