Don't forget that advertised or handbook weights are either "dry" or at best kerb weights. The average carĀ could be a fair bit heavier; full tank, spare petrol can, a gallon of oil, toolbox, not to mention some luggage. You could move everything into you tow car, but why bother? I would allow a good margin and use a trailer with a payload of at least 20% more than your intended car.
