Why do people keep things

As well as playing with Austin Sevens ive always had a Reliant in the garage. Ive always found reliant owners keep everything. Several years ago i purchased a car, and a transit van load of parts, within this were what i thought to be many new parts in the original boxes, sadly not, anytime a component had been changed, the old one was put in the box and stored on a shelve, just in case!
