All this has brought back memories of Martin Hone and the Birmingham Grand Prix which he was instrumental in promoting. (For the uninitiated he owned the Opposite Lock Club)
Sadly I was never a patron of the Opposite lock, I was however a regular at the Lord Raglan in Wolverhampton for the Tommy Burton Sunday night jazz sessions. A certain Terry McGrath played sousaphone and I used to go along with Andy Bird the gearbox man and his then fiance Linda.
