I prefer the foam type.
I have used both dry powder and foam.
The powder extinguisher had to be shaken to make it work ( it was still in date at the time ) Austin seven starter switch fire, the switch had a bit too much oil in it and lit up when I tried to start the engine.
The foam was used on a exhaust manifold fire. ( the manifold was wrapped with fibreglass that had oil on it ) a couple of squirts and the fire was out with very little clean up required.
