In 1974-5 when our first daughter was in a Britax child seat. I removed the back part of the rear seat in the Big 7 and drilled holes through the inner side of the spare wheel compartment to match the fittings of the child seat. I then refitted the back of the seat with the child seat on the front of it bolted through with some 1/8" thick repair washers. My daughter was happy suspended at a height where she could see out of the windows, and swing her feet well above the squab. She traveled to Beauliegh from Colchester a couple of times and down to London many times. We used the same for our son a couple of years later after we moved up to Hull. The holes are still there. I don't think it would be approved of now days with special fitting points and enormous child seats that take up most of the rear seat in a modern 7 foot wide world car.
