Thanks Dave for your comprehensive reply.
Brush gear is the newer type with “snail springs”
Checked carefully for any shorts.
As mentioned previously the Dynamo motors very well.
The only thing I can think of is the field connection.
This was mentioned by Bob from NZ
So I will try that.
