I use a wired bicycle speedo on my veteran car and it works great, I did have to lengthen the wire with a bit of shielded audio wire so it was a bit of mucking around. The advantage is the battery lasts for years. I have had no luck with wireless.
On my Lambda I use a Garmin Edge 200 which is a GPS type bicycle speedo the problem is it will go flat in about 10 hours so you have to remember to charge it before use or do what I have done and hard wire it. The advantage with hard wiring is that it will light up at night.
I have traveled around Europe like this and it has not been nicked as it is hard to see from outside, it may be a bit more obvious in a tourer!
