One advantage of your way Howard is that it's a little easier to attain precision - unless you think your jigs through carefully hot bending is apt to be a shade off target here & there. It's fairly easy to do as long as all the bends are in the same plane, but when they kick off to the side (as was the case with my tailpipe) setting up accurately can be a challenge. Of course the downside of joining sections is you need modest competence as a welder...
