Had all three bearing mounts off the car. Angle grinder on the rivet heads, then drifted the remainer
out of the chassis members.
A lot of head scratching looking at the two outer mountings, but decided probably the best (in my eye's)
was to put weld on the ball mountings then grind/skim back until the cross shaft balls were a tight fit.
Took quite a time to get it about right, but the mounting balls are now a tight fit in the mounts.
Put the mounts and cross shaft back (HT bolts and new bearings) and almost no noticable movement
on the cross shaft so happy.
Blow me, looked on Fleabay and someone is selling some mounts, presently at a low(ish) price.
Whether they are as good as my mounts I do not know but tempted to bid incase I have problems in
the future.
Spent some time setting the brake cables, but had a very confusing problem with the rear O/S brake.
With cables adjusted, put on handbrake. Rear wheels locked on three clicks.
Handbrake off, footbrake on hard. All but O/S brake locked. Handbrake back on, O/S wheel spins, N/S wheel locked.
Hmm. Adjusted all again and the same happened. Lots of cussing but found the problem.
Will leave you to guess what the problem was. Must admit I have never seen this before.
Just need some dryer weather to do a road test now.
Martin.
