Hi Robert. In reply to your questions as to the type and brand of paint I used I have fished the tin out of the rubbish bin and photographed it for you 
The can as purchased.
The bottom of the can showing the activation pin that must be used to open the internal hardener vial.
The red supplied knob which goes in the activation pin which you must hit to activate the hardener.
This product is marketed here in Canada and I think the USA, so may not be available in the UK. If you talk with your local Auto paint supplier they may have an equivalent spray paint in a rattle can that is marketed in the UK.
