Engine oil level
#11
Well in my opinion your sump will now be 3/4” overfilled.
Unless it’s been modified on a magneto engine the dipstick bottoms onto the upper side of the flange that holds the filter gauze, not the floor of the sump.

You DON'T need to modify the dipstick.
As Charles P says on early engines the dipstick bottoms on the flange in the crankcase. It doesn't reach the bottom of the sump.
What you DO need to modify for the alloy sump is the pick-up pipe on the oil pump. This is very short, just part of the oil pump cover. That needs to be extended otherwise it never picks up oil from the bottom of the sump.

Thanks Charles and Austin. I erroneously believed that the dipstick of the early engine rested on the floor of the sump.

I will alter the dipstick and oil pick-up pipe to suit and drain off the excess oil before next week's 100 km drive.

Regards,

Russell.
