Where Are All the Sevens?

There is,or was two 1932 sevens within a mile and a half from me,one of them from Alderney only a thousand different in body number to my own.
Recently a ‘33 car sold to someone in Alderney from Guernsey.I think they might be around 15? Here

I suppose you could ask this question about many classic cars.   How many Ford Cortinas or Escorts do you see in regular use?  They seem to only get used for going to the local car show or in the case of Escorts for competition use.
There are probably more Austin Sevens in regular use than many cars of the 1960's and 70's.   It may be down to the value of the car.   I have never worried about the value of my Austins, and find that most places can be reached using secondary roads that are more suited to the car.

I don't think I've seen an Escort, Cortina or Viva on the road in 3 years...lots of 2CVs Beetles and VW buses though!

There is one 2 door mk 1 Escort somewhere around Hereford or Leominster. It is owned by a slightly crusty old chap who says that no he does not want to sell it. He claims he can’t understand why people come up to him at petrol stations or car parks and offer him very large sums of money, if he so wished in brown envelopes, for a car he has had for a very long time and just uses to go shopping.
Up the Marches the density of Sevens per square mile must be pretty big. In Radnorshire the ratio of Sevens to population must be uniquely high. Just within ten miles of me in Abergavenny there are at least a dozen. However, some have evolved into part of a shed, some are polished vigorously but do small mileages to shows, some go shopping, and some, like my Ruby, are serviced, full of petrol, and ready to set off quite early tomorrow for a little nav rallying.

Once we all have to have trackers in our cars - the legislation is being introduced at the moment - at least the Govt will know exactly how many Sevens are on the road at any one time! With a FOI request we might find out too?

(Note: As spotted below, this was a 1st April post - so don't worry - there is (currently) no legislation going though Parliament requiring us to retrofit trackers.)

In the village I live in in Norfolk (population 1364 in 2021) there is to my knowledge one other Seven. I have not seen it in the 10 months I have lived here. Mine however is enjoying use several times a week, which it deserves, having been locked away in storage for the last 15 years while we got the living on a boat thing out of our system. On the wider classic front I did see a Morris 1000 the other day and the guy who lives at the windmill down the road has a Ford A which he uses fairly often. Otherwise I have seen l have seen few "old Cars" about.
