Ohhh how I would love a lathe in the garage and learn how to use it properly... I'm just too far away to get over and collect it in a reasonable time frame..

Has me thinking, does anyone know of a good youtube channel to follow showing the basics & tricks on a lathe ?

I have a copy purchased over 40 years ago as an apprentice and interested in model engineering,has some  helpful tool projects projects too inside.
Another good book is EITB training board book on turning,I had a spare copy,only went for about a fiver on eBay .

The Amateurs Lathe is, as Tony says, a really useful book despite its age. Everyone wanting to now how to use a small lathe should have a copy.
The Boxford "Know Your Lathe" book is applicable to most small lathes, not just Boxfords. Usefully it's downloadable here http://www.pulse-jets.com/boxford/boxfor..._lathe.pdf (but not the best reproduction quality!)

I find mill slideways oil works well too. Very thick, sticky stuff (plus a 4L bottle came free with my mill).
