Having changed out my worn out DK4A for a refurbished one courtesy of my brother Pete, went out today to fine tune the timing.
All seems ok except she keeps cutting out when coming to a stop, not sure if that is a distributor or a carb issue, I have had this problem before with the dodgy dizzy
However the point of the post is that having cut out at a rather busy double mini roundabout junction, the starter motor jammed (first time ever) and I had to push Ruby to one side to allow the traffic to pass, no more than a minute or two. Having got her to one side, a quick turn of the starting handle released everything and was able to start her up again, however I was so pleased to hear the encouragement from the public ………..

Truly heartwarming.

There's always a pillock around when you don't need one! Well done! Starter jamming is always an adrenaline moment. I always assume I've seized everything till it frees up!

Hi Dennis
I had to laugh at the endearing terms that you were subject to. But in truth that sort of behaviour is quite rare. I get waves from passers by, smiles from almost everyone and thumbs up from bikers and fellow classic and vintage drivers. However I guess patience does get strained on a long commute, particularly in the heat we’ve had recently.
Hope you get the problem sorted quickly.

Howard, obviously we are spoilt here in Wales. On those very rare occasions when the machine comes to a halt, there are often offers of help. Sometimes out in the middle of the countryside, when asked if everything is OK, the answer from gents of a certain age has to be, yes everything OK. Just inspecting this field gate.

Yes, it is true I do get appreciative thumbs up, smiles, waves and all that good stuff, but that is normally as I am cruising along or parked up somewhere, this is the first time I have ever come to standstill, and it was an exceedingly brief inconvenience, just as long as it took me to get out and ease her curb, and they were clear to pass on by, simples.

That reminds me of when a BMW pulled out of a side road and smashed my FOS wheel the BMW driver learnt his car wasn't so fast.
I was left to change the wheel and the traffic was trying to trim my rear so I picked up a rock from the side of the road to stop people driving on the grass and dumped it in the middle of the road. That solved that with much horn blowing which I found very satisfying until an HGV arrived which stopped everything, but by then I was ready for the off and removed the rock and departed the scene. While changing the wheel I'd spotted the sump had been damaged and there was a nice pool of oil on the road when I left the scene on a right hand bend.

Each generation of car has had it's twerp driver. Mk 2 Jag, Volvo, XR3i, BMW now the black Audi. My reflection is they will be in the scrap yard before they are half the age of any 7. Even less as the chip life is finite and moderns have dozens controlling every function in the car.

Had the wheels powder coated and tyre fitted, unfortunately we discovered the spare is a 17" not 19" so now need a spare wheel!
Just paid £40 to powder coat the wrong wheel!

Hi All
After spending all morning rebuilding my PA speedometer (spun off its bearings distributing micro ball bearings around its case  ) we decided a trip around the Elan Valley dams was in order.
Dams ….what dams…no water in the top one, very little in the next but the next to bottom dam was full but only up to the submerged dam which is normally about 30 ft below the water level. Even the bottom dam (Caban Coch) was nearly empty.
