Hood down Ruairidh, it would be rude not to! I’m still knocking back the new paint on the box, it’s far too glossy...then I can start banging in the windows, the sunshine roof and sew up a new headlining, I don’t know how had time to run a business as well...

Today I managed to snatch a couple of hours to strip the cowl and radiator, gearbox cover, dynamo and block... now to get some professional attention to those pesky head studs...

That trolly could be handy for holding tools whilst doing a de-coke on the engine!!

Nah, you'd need to put a tray in first to stop stuff landing on the tarmac. Wait till you get home, working in a cold car park is no fun...;-)

I wasn't impressed with it Bob, the wheels were a bit reluctant to turn. Maybe just needs running in.

Today was doing a recce for the Five Hills Tour, to be run at the end of May. Some snow, a lot of sun for nine hours of motoring. One incident involving a retired kamikaze pilot driving a Transit pick up for a builder in Gloucester, fortunately there were no telegraph poles hidden in the hedge. Numbers of horses, no wild boar were spotted in the Forest of Dean. Encountered a 2CV owner who makes mine look like a car that carries coal and sometimes goes trialling, two 50s Mack trucks, a semi derelict 1500 BMC Riley but not a singleTR2. Longhope was last recorded as being used in 1922, despite the subsequent thirteen years of motor car development, it still proved rather steep for the Ruby, the passenger had to dismount and push vigorously to help restart. We ended up at Bill Parker's locomotive works.

After stripping and rebuilding the steering box on the RP I took the old girl out for a run round the block. Up and over the "col des Brousses" and then back home over the "col du Trelis". They are both good climbs but not particularly high. The col du Trelis tops out at 415m which is 1360 feet. Just a pimple really.
Climbing in 3rd. Good oil pressure. |
