R, I think you mean lead coated steel? Well Terne plate actually.

I'd be interested to know where you can still get the tinplate in a large enough size and thick enough to make them from.

Hi Ruairidh
Just a thought. The front face of the D tank along with the filler neck, outlet and bulkhead plates are (in my experience) rarely damaged by rot and remain serviceable. It is the thin tank behind that rots and leaks. Would an exchange service whereby a new rear section is soldered on to the original face be a possible? Cheers Howard |
