I live in lake Tahoe and we get like 5 feet of snow on average. So would you recommend running it every once and a while in the garage?

You'll find that they're actually very good on snow, but 5ft might present ground clearance issues. At least you'll not be surprised by ineffective brakes!
I'd run it regularly but make sure that you run it to be fully warmed up, not just for a brief minute and stop. Charles

I think the car needs to be driven to exercise it properly. I don't think running it stationary, especially on tick-over is good. Our car is used all year and we do get snow in Scotland. Narrow, large diameter tyres and good ground clearance work well.
