The point is Tony that you don't NEED a professional sheet metal fabrication workshop to build a professional looking body, actually in this case its better and far more accurate than many professional offerings. A little knowledge, a modicum of skill and a willingness to try is what is required. That is not to take anything away from Athow he is a very talented young man with just the right approach and attitude, his research is exemplary and I have been constantly impressed by his ability to learn new skills very quickly. He regularly puts both me and his fabrication mentor Joss to shame, it is great when the student becomes the master and that is exactly where Athow is heading.

Indeed; doing it in what might be described as the "hard way" certainly teaches those essential skills that having the "professional kit" allows one (I should imagine) to shortcut.

Bit more of an update. The aluminium skin is being formed and welded. Those with a keen eye will note that the sides are one sheet not two. This was decided as it makes life a lot easier and is a bit more manageable when it comes to welding. Especially as I am new to all of this.  Hopefully in the next few weeks it should be fitted on to the floor and the final finishing stage can begin. However, still lots to do... wiring, planishing and minor adjustments.. etc

Hi Athow, looks great! The planishing bit is a real chore. It takes a long time! I don't think I have seen Joss' garage look so full of space before!

After a lot of hard work and learning, the body for my reproduction Ulster edged closer to reality as it was fitted on to the car. After a few weeks of settling, adjusting and tweaking the cockpit and boot has been trimmed and is now ready for wiring. There's still a tonne to learn and a huge amount of work to go, but its now a car.
