JiThe big day for the All Alloy Cup!

Spent an hour filling the radiator, gearbox and engine fluids.

First problem of the day , had to remove
The number plate as I had forgotten to close the
Drain tap! And access wasn’t otherwise easy!

Secondly had to tighten up most hose clips
But then water started running out the two studs
holding the side water manifold. Drained out the remaining water
And refitted the stainless studs with red fibre washers coated in
WellSeal and with Loctite thread lockn’seal on the threads

Adding the oil and petrol was a deal simpler!

After lunch Neil came and we checked that we had a spark,
But decided the petrol supply wasn’t working.

Discovered that the float control lever needed more bending 
Easily done!

Pressed the starter for the first time and it fired up without
Any adjustment to the carb or the distributor!!!

A small adjustment to the throttle control lever linkage
And it ticked over about 500 revs! Slow and steady!

4lbs sq inch on the oil gauge so all is well there too.

Neil joined me in cockpit, a tight fit you could say! And we set up up our unmade lane
Past the School on to the main road, down the hill through the village
and back up our road from the bottom. Used all the gears!

One of the rear backplates was catching the root of some spokes
But a mole wrench soon sorted that out.

Basically we were extremely happy that the coil engine build
and initial tuning set up was so smooth running. Currently it’s
on an old DK4 distributor but may also try the Accuspark I bought 
Earlier.

We then fitted the bonnet, but a modest amount of adjustment
will be needed here, plus the radiator will need to come off again 
as the indicator lamps are fouling the lower bonnet sides
plus I need to get in to tighten a couple of bolts that were not full locked up.

Otherwise a great result and am very , very grateful to Neil
for all his patience and engineering expertise in helping me get to this stage.

Lots of adjustments needed now especially brakes , rattily gearstick etc

Ops forgot to mention Dynamo not outputting and the cutout
Doesn’t seem to be working will need to check the wiring.......

Hi Ruairidh 

I think it started about 4lbs but came down only slightly
After running for about 20 minutes .

The gauge is a bit sticky and needs a little tic.

The oil pressure should go off the gauge when cold Bill - it will come down to around 3lbs or so after being warmed up fully.

You may have a faulty gauge or you may have fitted the oil pump vanes upside down - the chamfered ends go to the top of the engine.

Try another gauge if you can, initially. I can send you one that I know works, if that helps.
