Hi All,
Here in colonies, it is sometimes difficult to come up with imperial fasteners. I am in need of 3/16 X 1/2 BSF round head slotted screws and nuts, in either stainless or plain plated steel. Can anyone steer me to a supplier or alternatively send me some for a price. I need twenty of each.

I noted from some old mag that using stainless steel for fastenings starts the same corrosion as experienced with steel/aluminium. Anyone able to comment?

Not sure, but stainless nuts on stainless bolts will pickup before you get the them fully tightened.If I use stainless bolts, I use ordinary steel nuts.Don’t Use stainless as a replacement for safety related bolts it does not have the same strength .

If you use stainless steel fasteners in aluminium, galvanic corrosion will eventually attack the aluminium.
It's not quite the catastrophe it sounds, and is only likely to cause a real problem if you use aluminium fasteners (e.g. pop rivets) to secure a large stainless part i.e. the bulk of stainless is significant in relation to the bulk of ally.

You will find it much easier to get 2 BA screws as they are still used in model engineering.Pitch and dia are almost identical.

10-32 UNF screws are a very close match to 3/16" BSF, and will be easily available on your side of the pond.

I have a stock of these Erich - they are longer than 1/2" but I simply cut them down to suit the application.
