Roll Hoop

I notice on the Australian Austin 7 Specials that many seem to have roll hoops. I'm thinking about trying to put something similar on my car, and wondered if anyone has a specification / drawings / pictures of how this has been done on those specials.

The Australian MSA equivalent ( CAMS) mandate roll hoops / cages and seat harnesses on most competition cars .  
If you are intending to compete with your car in speed events or races , read the relevant sections in the MSA Blue Book
before going any further - its not a simple matter of welding some tube to the chassis frame .

The picture is of the car as is (with a 1970's trials body) and the drawings (bottom of page - top are an Ulster) are the dream - a two seat pastiche of the 1931 100 mph car. Currently it's a 1931 Short Chassis with linked brakes and a 1929 engine. Not much changed from original spec as yet. My hope is to make it into a two seat road, race special which I can use on the road and is suitable for  carrying my 10 year old and my 8 year old. Hence the thought of seat belts, but If I'm to have belts I think I need a roll hoop(s). All the extra weight does bother me (speed, braking) but ultimately if I race or hill climb it I'll be doing it against myself to begin with trying to improve my skill and speed, so I think it's worth the extra weight for the peace of mind that if I do have a 30mph accident (on the road) I and my passenger have some better protection than current - but clearly not up to modern standards - currently I do use it without belts on the road.  

I understand it needs to be done right as it could be more dangerous than not doing it, if I'm not careful. My sidecar has a safety cage which was made by an off road specialist.

Hi Philip , Geoff is right read the regs and use a roll cage builder who will certify the roll bars, the other thing is seat belts and there attachment , in NZ for a two seat sports car a 4 point harness would be required.
So a few things to study.
Good luck with the build.
