First time out in the RL saloon this year. A cold sunny day with salt free roads after some heavy rain. A varied turnout of old vehicles at the VSCC Ripon meeting. The Austin ran very well and was as comfortable as any modern car. Those in the open tourers were rather cold on arrival and stood around in the sun like the sea iguanas in Madagascar!

For the third time i have re positioned and tightened the clutch pedal clamping screw, the pedal was migrating towards the floor and this time I used more toque on the screw than on the head nuts and it seems to be staying put.

With salt washed from the roads and a clear but cold afternoon, I was persuaded by my very keen grandson to interrupt his bus journey home from college and take him and his girlfriend for the run home via a few Peak District lanes.

The next generation.....
I drove Mum and Dad's Dingo, while my daughter (Lindsey) drove my special to Vintage Stony yesterday. I think that's the first of her generation of Cookes to drive an Austin to an event. She loved it. The weather was gorgeous, and the turn out was massive. This was an event to replace the postponed New Year's Day event in Stony Stratford. There was about 15 Austin 7s there. We went for a drive through the back roads to Buckingham for lunch, then back to Towcester, where I cooked pancakes for all the family. A very special day, in some special cars. Sorry no pictures - I got too excited, and left my phone at home.

Sorry Malc, there are no sea ( marine ) iguanas in Madagascar. The only marine species - Amblyrhynchus cristatus - is found on the Galapagos Islands.

The second-eldest (of four) Grandson's 17th birthday, so we took three Sevens out for a 'treasure hunt' round the Peak District with all the family - the run finishing with a meal at the pub where I first met Anne at a VSCC gathering. All went well until, a mile from home, the Ulster would tickover, but not rev. Still, it provided the opportunity for a photograph in the gathering dark as we waited for the tow to arrive:

Good turn out from the club at the Auckland Brit and euro car show on the weekend. We made the lead picture in the Howick and Eastern Times article. It was hot!
