The way forward seems to be a thorough check of everything to do with the front suspension and steering, checking for tightness, and checking everything visually but without disturbing everything.
Then dismantling things starting with the drag link. Yes Stuartu, I had noticed the drag link was mentioned five times!
And yes to only changing one thing at a time, though if it only shimmies twice every 300 miles this could take a long time!

To complete the picture, the crash repair involved fitting.....
A new front spring
New spring shackles
New spring U-bolts
New steering arm from David at A7components
A second-hand axle
One second-hand radius arm
Dismantling and re-assembly of the radius arm ball mounting onto chassis
Dismantling and re-shimming the front end of the drag link.

I am just catching up with this thread. I suggest as the car has been in an accident you take a very careful look at the castor angle. I would suggest that it is highly probable the front crossmember has be pushed back in the area where the radius arm ball mounts. Even a small distance will upset the geometry and lack of sufficient castor together with wheel balance have been responsible for any experiences I have had of shimmy in an A7

Hi Andrew, I hope you get this sorted. I had a similar problem with the Pembleton Brooklands which would suddenly develop steering wobble at 58mph but only on perfectly smooth fresh tarmac. Wheel balancing, rim truing, steering rebuild, new steering damper, swapping wheels diagonally and laterally made no difference. Eventually it went away without explanation.
PS, thank you for using dismantling and not the ghastly Americanism "dis-assembling" that seems to be in fashion at present.

To expand Ian's point, I am sure that all of us recognise the alternative terms for various bits and pieces used. The point of language is communication and provided the message comes across unambiguously, whats in a word?

of course Ian you are quite right to point this out to me and that we do have overseas members who use different terms to us. I have to remember now as well that you can be arrested in this country now if the police receive a complaint about what you say about say on social media . Here in Wales the first minister down in Cardiff has told me that along with 95% of Welsh people that we are Racist and she is going to "Alter" the way we think because she is a politician and she knows that what she says the truth and we all know that's right don't we boys and girls, best regards to all no matter where you are Rob.

I am also not keen on all the 'new' words that I read every day, but also the poor grammar, punctuation and spelling. Maybe we just have to learn to be more forgiving.

Robert, you neglected to use a capital at the beginning of your sentence. You used the wrong word when you wrote 'worse'. It should be worst. 
"lug nut's" should not have the apostrophe as it is simply a plural. Lug nuts. Similarly wheel nut's is simply "wheel nuts". Also, the full stop is missing after "no mention".

Maybe we have drifted off topic.
