We had a 2003 lwb Sprinter based motor home, it was a delight to drive, but the automatic gearbox (with "tiptronic"type capability) became a bit fragile until after an £800 overhaul at 8 years/60000 miles. Good mpg (diesel) and towed a Smart using a frame without even noticing it!

Staff were optional. I used it to carry an 1898 Panhard to Brighton a few times and a 1907 Lanchester to Brussels for a Britain in Town exhibition . Slow going and all Mandrollic with the worst crash gearbox ever fitted to a truck. This was always confirmed by any older truck driver who saw it. Two or three silent changes then an almighty crunch. Sorry Reckless, the Mercedes Sprinter (2006 - 2020) is rear wheel drive, or at least my MWB is RWD and I don't think think the LWB is different from the amount of rear axles available on eBay. Engine is in traditional NS alignment. I believe the latest versions (from 2020) may be different......
Yes, sorry. I was talking borlax again. Don't know where that came from. Probably thinking about my mate's camper which is Merc powered but FWD. Need to engage brain first. Senior moment I think.
