I remember my father had a couple of side-valve Fords back in the day. He started with a 1937 7Y, which was an updated Model Y 8hp and drove that for many years. It was replaced with an E493A, 10hp Prefect (the E494A was actually a 8hp "Anglia" David) in about 1963. This required a reconditioned engine and rear axle in close succession so wasn't really a good buy.
Both cars were bodily sound, with very little rust, which cannot be said of their successor, a 1961 Hillman Minx, which rapidly oxidised itself into a brown stain on the drive. It wasn't even 10 years old...........

Thank you Parazine, I stand corrected. And, yes a lot of cars built in the late fifties and during the sixties would rot away rapidly. F series Vauxhall Victors and Renault Dauphines were the worst, I remember. It was said you could hear them rusting away in the garage!
