Some have used Belleville washers.The engineers may assemble the crank/bearing/flywheel,measure the gap and machine a spacer to the exact thickness.
Using self aligning bearings,certainly initially makes for a smooth running engine.
NKE are not a cheap bearing,Packaged in Austria,manufactured ?.So are many Top bearings manufactured around the world,In fact I believe NKE own RHP.(I work part time in a bearing and seals firm and I'm sure the last RHP's I booked in came in an NKE box).
