FX 1491
#1
Hi All,
Having purchased a 38 Ruby FX1491 I am looking for any history of the car.I have limited MOT's going back 5 years
but am wishing to find out the usual stuff like what year was it restored or how many times was it restored. It has a Belfast reg number and I have a photo in a classic car magazine of it being in a rally in 1993.The car is in excellent order all round and the paintwork is as good as I've ever seen,I just have small issues such as the sliding roof don't slide, all the internal rails and catches are intact but it has been fixed shut,so I would maybe like to get it working again.Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Confused

I thought FX was Dorsetshire? Having replaced the infamous BF series withdrawn
In1904 after a petition to Parliament?

Or was FX later reallocated?

Must check my Glasses Guide.

We had a 38 Big Seven registered in Belfast which was F3191.

FX was indeed Dorsetshire (Bournemouth) but doesn't feature in my Glass's Index for some reason. The good news is some FX registration cards do exist and are held at the Dorset History Centre - link below:

https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/dorsethistorycentre

Interestingly the three letter AFX was first issued by Dorset in October 1938 and ran until March 1939.

FZ Belfast registrations were first issued in January 1938 and by the beginning of January 1939 they'd reached FZ 3828.

Your ARR Ruby is listed on the A7CA Chassis Register. The 'Notes' suggest that back in 2014 it was owned by someone who was a member of both the Midlands Austin 7 Club (MA7C) and the Ulster Pre-War Austin Club (UPWAC). Suggest you send an email to the respective clubs Membership Secretary / Registrar requesting any help with the cars more recent history. It's possible that some Northern Irish registration records from when the car was new may still exist at the Driver Vehicle Agency in Coleraine, The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland in Belfast and the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Holywood - links to all below:-
