Car No and Chassis No plates
#1
Hello
Does anyone know the size and fontĀ  of the number and letter stamps used to originally stamp these plates. The modern ones look a bit new. Has anyone managed to purchase a set of period stamps?
Many thanks.
Adrian.

Not sure of the size off hand, but I use PRYOR punches - not cheap, but great kit and better looking fonts than the Chinese stuff

Hi Adrian

Another name to throw into the mix is "Arnold" Birmingham. I bought some which I believe date from the 1920's to re-create the part number stamp on a Nippy drop link.

Its not quite the same as what you are after but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Austin used Arnold stamps. I'm happy with the result, I think it is a very close match for the original in my case.

Thanks

Matthew
