Bacon slicer and 4 speed gearbox
#1
Good morning chaps,

Just a little advise please, before I grind further into either my BS starter, is it usual the starter doesn't align on the flywheel housing, i have clearance issues on the LHS ? i'm only a few mm short, but are wondering if there is a gasket, plate, spacer the BS should be mounted on providing the clearance needed?  ....

I haven't seen anything online..

many thanks in-advance...

Matt

The usual reason is the aluminium bendix housing fouling the foremost bolt head on the gearbox top. You may also find that a little judicious relief of the adjacent castings is called for but I would first remove the two gearbox top bolts under or near the bendix housing and do a trial fit to see if they are the culprits. If so, reducing the bolt head thickness usually works.

Regards,

Stuart

I think your problem is that you have a 1933 "crash" gearbox lid there. Here's the bacon slicer in my AG tourer. This is the post '33 gearbox and lid.

Thanks for the feedback, I double checked last night as I couldn't imagine I'd not seen a bolt head as being the culprit, they are clear.. I think its a case of further machining of the two faces or seeing if I can fit the post 33 lid... :-)

I'm basically rebuilding a incomplete bitza car so its a steep learning curve

cheers

The post '33 lid will not fit that gearbox.
