When touring Europe and beyond, in the Sevens, we use both maps and the Sat Nav.
The maps enure we are taking the (quiet scenic) route we want and the Sat Nav tells us how many miles are left, guides us through any towns (a good deal of which are devoid of signage in many countries now, an attempt to discourage cars) and finds nearby supermarkets/campsites/petrol stations when we need them.
A good mixture of both works very well, in our experience.
